Kevin E. Stewart has been appraising antiques, fine art and other types of personal property for over thirty years.  Starting in 1976, he began managing the family owned antique and appraisal business “The Connoisseur” in San Diego, California.  Mr. Stewart was rigorously tested and designated, senior member, by the American Society of Appraisers, headquartered in Washington, D.C., in 1982.  Tested and certified by the International Society of Appraisers in 1984.  He was one of the few members of the American Society of Appraisers ever to have tested and been designated in more than one specialty.  He was a member of the International Board of Examiners of the American Society of Appraisers from 1986-1987 and 1990-1991, and reviewed and graded the tests of prospective members.

Kevin Stewart was a member of the National Association of Antique Dealers from 1976 to 1986.  Mr. Stewart was elected to the board of the San Diego Chapter of the American Society of Appraisers in 1982 and served for four years after which he was elected president in 1986.  Since 1986 until 2001, he was the owner/director of Stewart Galleries of San Diego, and Palm Springs, California.  In August 2001 he elected to devote himself full time to the appraisal and fine art brokerage business, working by appointment only.  In 2007 he was tested and completed his USPAP certification in order to comply with I.R.S. qualification standards for appraisers.  Furthering his education, he was tested by the College for Appraisers, and is a Certified Fine Art Appraiser.

Kevin E. Stewart, Appraiser, Inc. is qualified to appraise fine art including: paintings, sculpture, prints, watercolors, etc.; antiques including:  fine art, period furniture, porcelains, silver, glass, clocks, textiles, etc., collectibles, oriental fine art and antiques, various ethnographic materials, including: Native American, pre-Colombian, etc., as well as all manner of personal property and residential contents.

Mr. Stewart has appraised property for numerous corporations, and personal collections of prominence, for Fair Market Value and insurance replacement purposes, as well as estate and probate appraisals, including work for such personages as the Honorable Walter H. Annenberg, Mrs. Joan B. Kroc, Mr. William A. Foxley, and Mr. & Mrs. Sidney Sheldon, etc.  Some of the museums and institutions he has worked for include the Palm Springs Art Museum, the Living Desert Zoo & Gardens, San Diego Museum of Art, San Diego Historical Society, Edward Dean Museum, Eisenhower Medical Center, Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center, Desert Regional Medical Center and the American Cancer Society.  He has worked for attorneys, insurance companies, national moving and van lines, bank officers, antique and fine art dealers, auction houses and government agencies.  He has taken part in appraisal clinics and “Road Show” type discovery days.  Kevin Stewart has served as an expert witness in court, giving testimony as to the value and authenticity of antiques and fine art.

The appraisers fees are based upon his time and expertise and not on the value of the items.  Complete discretion and strict adherence to the appraisal code of ethics are practiced in all matters.  Mr. Stewart will travel for important collections.
